The Spectre Performance Maverick Build

spectre performance (the company that has that rack of chrome shit in the back of all the pepboys...) held this contest a few months back. they had bought an old maverick and wannted people to submit ideas on how to build it up.

here were the finalists

Untitled Document

heres the winning design

http://www.spectreperformance.com/co...ges/Entry5.pdf

the drive train is from a 3rd gen toyota supra 7M-GTE. i have no idea what that is or how good they are... i just know what he posted about it.

I do like the hood on the car but thats about where it ends.

I think #1 woulda been the most bad ass car on the list. definatly all the makings of a classic muscel car. #7 was a cool one too, definatly digging the cougar tail lights on it

i'd say the supra one was probably the only one i didnt like lol but maybe building that car and taking it on tour might help the younger crowd gain an intrest in mavericks and non-mustang classic fords?? but if you ask me i think someone must have seen fast and the furious3 one too many times and thought dropping a turbo import engine into a old ford was a sure fire way to beat out modern sports cars

Heres the car they started with

run of the mill '70 with a 200 straight 6 under the hood (mine has a 250 )

they wanted to test out their fuel injection and engine managment stuff on it at the track.

keep in mind for a stock 200 it probably only puts about 80 hp to the wheels but pretty good low end TQ to make up for it. stock it would probably run a 19 on the 1/4 somewhere in the 70mph range

that car they bolted up a header, the FI set up and ran a shot of nitrous through it and brok into the 14's

anyway, thats the car they are going to tear apart for the contest car build

over on the drivers side fender where the cold air intake is is completly boxed in from any outside air sources, and i didnt see them drill any holes in the magazine article lol

the factory cold air intake is shaped like a wide rectangle and is, very tall yet skinny and sits between the battery and radiator

Here are the latest pictures of the Maverick build. We're going with a 2JZ drivetrain from the MKIV Supras as Spectra Performance already had 2 of them in house. Power Goal will be 500 to 550RWHP. We've gutted the suspension and added Coilover Suspension Mustang II front end, with tubular A arms, and Coilover Suspension with a 9" Ford Rear end.

I'll update soon with more pictures.

This engine bay is smaller than I thought it would be, even with the shock towers removed. There is no room for a decent size front mount intercooler, this weekend we're going to try and figure a way to mount one behind each headlight and feed them with air scoops. The oil pan has to be modified to clear the cross member, the Maverick is rebelling, but the 2JZ will win that battle!

I'll have more next week.
